Departing Kenna Wishes Harriers Well
Defender Jeff Kenna has admitted that his Wembley appearance whilst a Kidderminster player last season was 'beyond his wildest dreams.'
The former Republic of Ireland International left the club after taking up the vacant managerial hot-seat at Galway United today.
After two years with Harriers, Kenna spoke to the official website shortly before his departure to give his reflection on his Aggborough career.
He had only kind words for the club and boss Mark Yates, and hailed last year's Wembley achievement but also rued not being able to clinch promotion in a red shirt.
"It's been fantastic, the gaffer has been absolutely fabulous with me and I've really enjoyed it - everyone has been great and I have no complaints," Kenna told harriers.co.uk.
"Never did I think that I'd be playing at Wembley when I signed for Kidderminster, that was beyond my wildest dreams, and was a fantastic bonus.
"It would have been nice to have won promotion; that would have been the icing on the cake.
"We were in with a shout last year but faded away and hit form a little too late this year which must be terribly frustrating for the manager.
"I just hope the lads can hit the ground running early next year and make a success out of it."
Casting a prediction over Harriers' chances of success for the new 2008-09 season, Kenna admitted that a good start - something missing from the last few seasons - would be a real boost for the squad.
He added: "I think it's important that they take this momentum into the start of the season.
"All teams have a disappointing run of results but a good start gives you a bit of breathing space.
"I think a good start would be important but there are some good players here, and some very good youngsters and I've no doubt that the gaffer will want to build on that and take things forward next year."
Speaking on his new role at Galway, he went on to say: "It's something I'm very excited about, but maybe a little bit nervous also as it's a step into the unknown but I'm really looking forward to getting started.
"The facilities are excellent and I'm ready to throw myself straight into it."
