Mark Yates has told the official website that he hopes to have some of his out-of-contract players tied down to new deals within the very near future.

Yates offered fresh terms to six players yesterday after holding talks with the squad.

Andy Ferrell , Brian Smikle, Matthew Barnes-Homer, Simon Russell, Dean Coleman and Iyseden Christie have all been told they want to be kept on for next season.

And speaking to harriers.co.uk this morning, Yates hoped to have had one or two of those contracts done and dusted over the course of the next few days.

"We want them to be part of what we're trying to build for next season and that's why we've offered them contracts," he said.

"They've all got something to offer us and it's a process we want to complete as soon as we can.

"We're hopeful we can get a couple of the contracts signed within the next few days and we should have more news by the end of the week.

"Some have agreed things straight away and one or two want to go away and think about a couple of things and that's fine, I've got no problem with that and wouldn't expect them to rush into something."

Much has been made about the details of contracts dished out to members of the squad, with Yates last week insisting that players would need 'to be realistic' in what they were asking for.

Stating that the nature of all the deals would be made public once players put pen to paper, the Aggborough boss again re-iterated the need for the club's best interests to remain at heart.

"The details of the contracts will come out as and when people sign," he explained.

"We've got to do what's right for the football club and we can't be stupid with money and lengths of contracts.

"We're trying to be prudent but of course we are trying to keep hold of our better players."

Five players left Aggborough and returned to their parent clubs after spending time with Harriers on-loan during the course of the 2007-08 season.

Former loanees Darryl Knights of Yeovil and Shrewsbury Town's Luke Jones were just two that received praise from Yates, though he admitted he'll be reviewing the situations of all the squad's loan stars.

"Darryl is one that we're particularly interested in and we're speaking to him and his agent soon," he continued.

"We've already spoken to a number of our targets since Saturday with a view to bringing them here but it takes time, we're not kidding ourselves on that.

"We know what a decent player Luke Jones is but we're not aware of his situation at Shrewsbury yet but, as with all the players who we've had on loan we'd like to thank them for their efforts; we'll be in touch with them all over the next few weeks once we know what's what with their parent clubs."
