DESPITE his very early withdrawal in last night's pre-season friendly win over Hereford United due to a knee injury, defender Luke Jones isn't expected to be missing for too long.

The ex-Shrewsbury Town centre-half joined in the summer after leaving the League Two club but managed just ten minutes of last night's opening friendly tie before being forced off and replaced by trialist Martin Riley.

Boss Mark Yates confirmed that Jones had picked up a slight knee injury that will be assessed by physio Peter Dugmore but it was not believed to be serious.

"He just seemed to get a little tweak in his knee but hopefully it isn't too bad," Yates said.

"He'll be in (today) and we'll speak to Pete and assess where we are."

Riley played 80 minutes of the game last night whilst another defender in former Wolves man Keith Lowe also impressed.

Yates added that despite already having strong options in that area, Lowe's stint at Aggborough is of benefit to both parties.

"I had Keith at Burley when I was Assistant and I can't believe he hasn't got a league club," he continued.

"If I didn't have Luke Jones and Mark Creighton he might be someone I'd be desperate for, but he's looking to go and play in the league and it's just a case of us having a look at him.

"We're also helping him out and I don't mind that because he's a good lad and you want those kind of people around the training ground."
