A MARVELLOUS performance and a first-half goal from James Constable set Harriers on their way to a second win on the bounce in league action as they beat Altrincham 3-2 at Aggborough today.
The man on-loan from Walsall caused problems all afternoon and deserved his second goal in as many games - he equalised for Harriers five minutes after Colin Little had put Altrincham in front with a fine finish.
Iyseden Christie scored his ninth goal of the season four minutes before the break Altrincham levelled matters with another good goal, this time from Joe O' Neil.
Jonny Harkness scored his third goal in two games with another great free-kick but in truth Harriers should have been out of sight by that point, with Christie, Simon Russell and Russ Penn all missing great opportunities.
Harriers have been desperate to go on a run all season long and there's no better occasion than now, with two victories on the spin now in the record books. One more at Stafford could see the team move into tenth place in the Conference and with Oxford, Dagenham & Redbridge, Burton Albion and Gravesend all losing today it's proof that nothing is ever decided in December.
The amount of chances not taken by the side today may be some concern to boss Mark Yates but the sheer amount of creativity within the side made for an entertaining afternoon at Aggborough, surely the 1,400 inside the ground today will have gone home happy.
Little's opener on 24 minutes gave the game it's first goal though, and it's no wonder the Altrincham fans are so happy to see him back in action, Lewis Chalmer's ball was superbly slotted past Bevan to give the visitors the lead, barely nine minutes after Harriers had gone close themselves with Christie's shot hitting the post.
They weren't ahead for long, though, as just after Penn had headed over the bar for the home side, Kenna whipped in a ball that was flicked on by Christie for Constable to head a looping ball into the top corner of the net.
Four minutes before the break and Harriers found themselves in front, Christie was body-checked in the area by Peter Band and referee Roger Vaughan pointed to the spot - the on-loan Rochdale man put the ball away coolly from the resultant kick.
It really should've been 3-1 on the stroke of half time as a fantastic move from the home side saw Constable put Russell through on goal only for the midfielder's shot to be well saved by goalkeeper Stuart Coburn.
Straight after the break Harriers had two more great opportunities - Christie twice within the first 15 minutes of the half found himself one on one with Coburn after being put through by Russell and Penn respectively, with the striker spending far too long trying to shift the ball onto his favoured foot the chances both went begging.
Once again Altrincham made Harriers pay - for their second goal, substitute Gary Talbot's ball was turned upon and drilled home by O'Neil to make the score 2-2. The visitors once again barely had chance to collect themselves before they went behind once again.
Talbot clumsily brought down Constable outside the box and Harkness stepped up and drilled home the free-kick from 25 yards, Coburn could only help it on its way into the back of the net.
The hosts had numerous chances after this to bury the game, Christie headed over whilst Penn shot high and Davies missed an unguarded net after firing a nicely-weighted ball from 30 yards with Coburn out on the wing!
The best of the chances arguably came to Russell, though, as after Christie had made a complete mockery of the Alty defence and slipped a ball through into the area, the former Hull man curled a great ball goalwards only to see it go just over the bar.
There's no doubt that more chances should've been taken by the team today but a good performance saw them come from behind to record a Conference win in front of their own supporters for just the third time this season, a solid base to build on with two out of two in December.
