HARRIERS improving start to the new season took a nose dive in Surrey this afternoon as Woking bossed today's game at the Kingfield Stadium to leapfrog the boys in the league table.

Craig McAllister opened the scoring for the Cards before Guiseppe Sole doubled the advantage with a fantastic strike to make it 2-0 at the break.

Harriers showed precious little threat bar a period of pressure in the second half and substitute Steven Ferguson rounded off the victory for the hosts with a third.

It's no secret that despite the preparation going in to the game, Harriers were sloppy throughout and as a result a sharp Woking side were dominant for almost all of the first period, Sole, Jon Nurse and Tom Hutchinson all went close with chances before McAllister gave the game it's first goal on 27 minutes in somewhat fortunate circumstances - he appeared to have handled his effort before it made it's way past Scott Bevan.

The hosts continued to press and only Bevan denied them an immediate second goal as he got down well to superbly parry a shot from Sole, who really ran Harriers ragged this afternoon.

With 32 minutes on the clock the same man grabbed himself a goal as he was left free to latch onto Nurse's sweeping pass, and slotted beautifully past Bevan into the bottom corner of the net.

Russ Penn did his best to etch out an opportunity at goal whenever he was on the ball and was unlucky not to have halved the deficit just before the break as he sent a low shot crashing just wide.

Into the second half and Harriers looked a much, much brighter outfit with the introduction of Luke Reynolds after 58 minutes, the striker really kept the Cards' defence alert and linked up well in parts with Dean Sturridge up front.

Penn, Sturridge and Reynolds all rifled shots goalwards in an attempt to claw their side back in the game but the home defence was seemingly just unwilling to be beaten, with players flinging themselves in front of the ball countless times to block efforts.

Just after the hour mark Reynolds got a rare shot in on goal for Harriers as his snap-shot forced a quick save from Shwan Jalal.

If the game wasn't already in doubt by the time the 77th minute arrived, Ferguson made sure of it as he held off Stuart Whitehead to beat Bevan with a low shot for the home side's third goal.

Jonny Harkness' free kick was simple catching practice for Jalal in stoppage time and after the final whistle blew, boss Yates kept the entire squad in the centre of the pitch for what looked to be a stern dressing down.

A disappointing day for the side after such heroics on Saturday, but they'll have chance to make amends with the visit of rivals Rushden and Diamonds to Aggborough this coming Friday evening.
