Mark Creighton marked his 100th appearance for Harriers today with a goal as they beat Rushden & Diamonds 2-0 at Aggborough.
Creighton's looping second-half header doubled the home side's advantage after Iyseden Christie had put them ahead with a good finish in the first half.
It was by no means a classic game but Harriers were always in control - they got their third straight home win whilst keeping another clean sheet at Aggborough.
In the first 20 minutes, the hosts blitzed their visitors with some fantastic football with midfielder Simon Russell at the front of most of it - he could have opened the scoring on just three minutes as his lobbed shot went just past the top corner of the Rushden goal.
With just eight minutes gone, Harriers went close again as Creighton got up well to Russell's corner and thumped a header off the cross bar; With such pressure it was only a matter of time before the scoring was opened.
Unsurprisingly, Russell was again involved. After Darryl Knights had held the ball up superbly before slipping the former Hull man in to fire at goal and force a good save from Dale Roberts, Russell was able to tease in the cross from the resulting corner to CHRISTIE, who hit a sweet volley into the back of the net for his tenth of the season.
The away side produced very little, certainly in the first half but Tom Shaw was a good threat for them - his firm shot around the half-hour mark was well blocked in the area by the Harriers defence.
Barely five minutes into the second half, centurian CREIGHTON made it 2-0, rising well to get to Jeff Kenna's looping cross, powering an effort into the top corner that Roberts had no chance with.
Four minutes further on, the Diamonds were going forward in search of a goal to cling to - Shaw hit a great effort from about 18 yards but Chris MacKenzie caught and held the ball well.
They seemed only likely to threaten at set-pieces and Shaw's 68th minute effort stung the hands of the Harriers' goalkeeper but MacKenzie was again equal to the effort.
Just over ten minutes from time, Christie had the chance to double his tally for the day but he got just under his header from a right-wing cross and Roberts was able to hold.
