A lacklustre performance from Harriers saw their winning run come to an end as they drew 1-1 with a hungry and battling Altrincham side at Aggborough.
It was the battle of the in-form goal scorers, and both Colin Little and Iyseden Christie got on the score sheet for their sides in this scrappy draw.
The hosts had been able to produce such good performances over the past month or so on the foundation of good starts to matches - their woeful start to this one saw them deservedly go behind as Alty dominated the opening stages; Greg Tansey went close with one effort before the scores were opened. Paul Turnbull put a great ball into the box and the Harriers defence were left static as Ryan Shotton headed down for LITTLE, who finished well past Dean Coleman from close-range.
Backed by a noisy following of close to 150 fans, Altrincham stayed the strongest as the half wore on, and after getting past Mark Creighton Tansey should really have done better with his shot along the face of goal.
The home side started to pick their game up slightly as the half-hour mark approached, going close through a Matthew Barnes-Homer shot and a cheeky Jeff Kenna free-kick; Darryl Knights then sent a glancing header wide of the target.
With just seconds to go before the break, though, Mark Yates' side drew level - Russell Penn was brought down in the box by Ryan Lynch after putting the Altrincham back-line under some real pressure with a great run. CHRISTIE made no mistake for his 15th goal of the season in dispatching the penalty.
Seven minutes after the break Penn went close to putting his side into the lead as he capped another great run from midfield with a decent shot that rose just over Stuart Coburn's bar.
Altrincham were always going to test their hosts from set-plays and they were awarded a free-kick in a decent position three minutes after the hour mark, but the delivery into the box was poor from Lynch.
On 74 minutes, Harriers were almost caught on the counter as Altrincham raced forward after having all men back - they almost certainly would have scored, having a two v two situation going towards goal, but Little and sub Chris Senior seemed to confuse one another with their movement and the back-tracking defence was able to clear.
Eight minutes from time, Harriers found themselves with an open goal to shoot into after Coburn had collided with Brian Smikle, but Matthew Barnes-Homer hesitated for far too long and the away side were able to re-group.
In injury time, a massive scramble in the box almost saw the visitors snatch it, but Senior scuffed his shot at the last, and a grateful Coleman was able to gather.
Harriers are next in action when they travel to Halifax Town in the Blue Square Premier on Tuesday night (7:45pm.)
