Halifax Win 'Something Special' - Yates
A thrilled Harriers boss Mark Yates has heaped the praise on four-goal star Russell Penn for his demolition job on Halifax Town last night.
Midfielder took his scoring tally for the season to 12 with a simply sublime first-half hat-trick at The Shay, not to mention a wonderfully taken fourth in the second.
Speaking after the game, Yates enthused about the former Scunthorpe player's abilities.
"That's what Russ is all about. He's well into double figures now this season," said Yates.
"I've said to him that he got his rewards, he was up and down, having a tackle, passing the ball properly, and attacking in their box and defending in ours.
"That's what he's about - whether he plays as a central midfielder or a wide player, or just tucked in like we played him here.
"The energy the boy has and the talent he's got is just fantastic, and I'm just delighted for him."
There was a surprise name on the score sheet last night with Andy Ferrell grabbing his first-ever Kidderminster goal with a1 penalty in the second half.
With Harriers 4-1 up at the time, the ex-Hereford man was allowed to dispatch the spot-kick, which turned out to be doubly sweet for the man himself, as the Aggborough boss went on to explain.
"I wouldn't have been too happy if he'd missed it!
"I think there was a little side bet between Andy Ferrell and James Constable that Fez wouldn't score this season, and I'm told afterwards that Fez is £100 better off after scoring.
"So I think they'd like to dedicate that one to James!" quipped Yates.
Harriers' resounding success plunged Halifax further into trouble at the foot of the table as they seek to ensure they aren't to join already-relegated Stafford Rangers and Droylsden.
Whilst sympathising for his opposite number at The Shay, Yates could only further praise his own side, describing the performance as 'something special'.
"I feel massively for Chris Wilder," he added.
"He's a good mate of mine and a top manager - he's been kicked in the teeth by the ten-point deduction.
"He's a great lad and I feel for him, his staff and his players and I for one hope that Halifax don't go down and that they can drag themselves out of it.
"But on ourselves - I thought Iyseden was absolutely immense; he was instrumental in everything we did.
"I don't think their back four, or back three when they changed it a bit, will have had a tougher night.
"The movement we had and the way we passed the ball was something special."
